As the name suggests, our SWAP’n’GO^® program is all about swapping over your empty gas bottle with a full one, and off you go!

You get your choice of either 9kg gas bottle refill or 4kg gas bottle refill sizes and we stock both POL and LCC27 gas bottles.

You can gas bottle swap an older POL gas bottle for a newer SWAP’n’GO LCC27 gas bottle at the same SWAP’n’GO prices.

If you don’t have an empty gas bottle to swap over, or would like an extra gas bottle on standby at home, you can buy a new full gas cylinder from any of our dealers to get you underway in the SWAP’n’GO program.

The 9kg BBQ gas bottle is the larger bottle filled with 8.5kg of LPG. The smaller 4kg gas bottle is filled with 3.7kg of LPG.

Gas Bottle Swap: Swapping POL Gas Bottle for LCC27 Gas Bottles

At SWAP’n’GO, you can swap an older POL gas bottle for newer SWAP’n’GO LCC27 gas bottles (type 27 gas bottle) at the same SWAP’n’GO prices.

So, if you purchase a new BBQ with an LCC27 gas bottle connector but have an old POL gas bottle, you just need to do a gas bottle swap.

You will find both kinds of gas bottles in the SWAP’n’GO cages during the transition period, which will stretch over a number of years.

Remember, LCC27 gas bottle connectors are backwards compatible with POL regulators.

9kg Gas Bottle – BBQ Gas Bottle at Competitive SWAP’n’GO prices

Swap a POL gas bottle for an LCC27 gas bottle at the same SWAP’n’GO prices.

The 9kg gas bottle is, by far, the most popular gas bottle size for a BBQ gas bottle. It is the ubiquitous gas bottle seen in service station cages and hanging from BBQs. Newer 9kg gas bottle refill comes with a safety enhanced LCC27 valve whilst older ones have POL valves.

A 9kg gas bottle dimensions are approximately 315mm in diameter, 475mm in height and a nominal 17.64L capacity.

Empty 9kg gas bottles weighs approximately 7.8 to 10.4 kg. When full, a 9kg gas bottle refill weighs approximately 16.8 to 19.4 kg. The weight range is do the the manufacturing variances of the many manufacturers of the gas bottles.

SWAP’n’GO LCC27 Gas Bottles Phase-In

SWAP’n’GO has been phasing in LCC27 gas bottles since 2022 and this will continue over the next few years.

SWAP’n’GO LCC27 gas bottles are being introduced into the gas bottle population at a rate that is faster than new LCC27 gas appliances are being sold.

The result is that you will still find both POL and LCC27 gas bottles in the SWAP’n’GO cages for the next few years.

This phase-in process is designed to provide the appropriate number of each type of gas bottle swap as time goes by.

LCC27 Adaptor Should Be Avoided: Get SWAP’n’GO LCC27 Gas Bottles Instead

Some people might be tempted to use an LCC27 to POL adaptor when they get a new LCC27 BBQ but have an old POL gas bottle.

An LCC27 adaptor should be avoided as it can be prone to leaks, with left and right-hand threads on the same connection.

Also, whilst you can get a POL to LCC27 adapter at Bunnings or other BBQ supply stores, you can save money by simply swapping your old POL gas bottle for full SWAP’n’GO LCC27 gas bottles at the same SWAP’n’GO prices.

In addition, LCC27 adaptors are banned in WA whilst the QLD, VIC, TAS, NT and SA state governments have posted warnings against LCC27 adaptor use. This follows a homeowner receiving severe burns resulting from a gas cylinder fire in Western Australia whilst using an LCC27 adaptor. The injured person was hospitalised for further treatment.

4kg Gas Bottle – Camping Gas Bottle

The 4kg gas bottle is, by far, the most popular gas bottle size for a camping gas bottle. It is lighter in weight and extremely portable, making it perfect as a camping gas bottle. New 4kg gas bottles come with a safety enhanced LCC27 valve whilst older ones have POL valves.

A 4kg gas bottle dimensions are approximately 240-265m in diameter, 345-450mm in height and a nominal 7.2L capacity.

Empty 4kg gas bottles weighs approximately 4.5-6.6kg. When full, a 4kg gas bottle weighs approximately 8.5-10.6kg. The weight range is do the the manufacturing variances of the many manufacturers of the gas bottles.
